04Questions
Before you start.
Transcribing an hour of audio by hand takes four to six hours. An AI transcript takes minutes and gets most of the way there. Here's how to get an accurate one, and what to do with it afterwards.
What the free plan covers
Transcription costs 40 credits a minute and a free account starts with 1,000 credits: 25 minutes of audio or video, charged by the second. The transcript is kept in your account, with speakers labelled and every sentence timed.
Get a cleaner transcript
Accuracy depends mostly on the recording. A close microphone in a quiet room beats an expensive microphone across a table.
- If the recording is noisy, remove the background noise first.
- Say which language it is if you know; it's detected either way.
- Names and jargon are the usual mistakes. Fix them once in the transcript before exporting.
Subtitles from a transcript
Download the transcript as SRT or VTT and you have subtitles timed to the sentence, ready for YouTube or any video editor. Captions make a video watchable on mute, which is how most social video is watched, and give search engines the words in your video.
What else a transcript is for
A transcript can become a script: open it in the Studio to re-voice a recording, or dub the video into another language in the same voice. For show notes and articles, the plain text export is the starting point.
