04Questions
Before you start.
Background noise is the quickest way to make a good recording sound amateur. AI noise removal can now rescue recordings that EQ and noise gates couldn't. Here's what it can fix, what it can't, and how to record so you need it less.
What AI noise removal fixes
Traditional noise reduction learns a noise profile and subtracts it, which works on a steady hiss and leaves the voice sounding underwater. AI clean-up instead recognises the voice and keeps only that, so it also handles noise that changes: traffic, wind, a dog barking, a café, a room's echo.
- Steady noise: hum, hiss, fans, air conditioning.
- Changing noise: traffic, wind, keyboards, voices in the background.
- The room: echo and reverb from bare walls.
What it can't fix
Clipping (a recording so loud it distorted) can't be undone, and a voice buried completely under music or another speaker can't be fully recovered. If the voice is hard for you to hear, it will be hard for the AI too.
Free, by the second
Clean-up costs 1,300 credits a minute, charged by the second, so the free plan's 1,000 credits clean about 46 seconds of audio: enough to hear the difference on a short clip of your own. Longer recordings, episode after episode, are what the paid plans are for.
Record so you need it less
Get the microphone a hand's width from your mouth, record in the smallest, softest room you have (a wardrobe full of clothes is a classic), and turn off fans and notifications. Then clean what's left, and check the result against your platform's loudness target with the loudness checker.
